The Wandering

Photography found me at a turning point in my life.

After the end of a long career, I was inspired by others who had found healing through photography and began exploring what it might offer me. What started as a reason to pick up a camera became a reason to get outside, wander, notice and reconnect with the natural world around me.

I'm most at home photographing alone. I'm a solitary soul by nature, happiest somewhere quiet with my camera — beside the ocean, among old ruins, wandering through the Tasmanian landscape or standing beneath a dark sky waiting for the aurora to appear.

There is something about the night sky, and the aurora in particular, that has always felt deeply spiritual to me. But I'm just as drawn to the things easily passed by: tiny fungi, droplets on moss, weathered buildings, traces of Tasmania's past, and moments of light that make me stop.

Behind the Lens is where I'll share more of those journeys — the places I find, the stories behind the photographs, and some of what happens before an image becomes part of Island Spirit Photography.
